[06.29.02] - The Three Hosts

I was rereading what we (Hybrid and I) thought the site would be about. Now we know that has changed. At first we were going to have personalities from the Forbidden host "The Forbidden Fairy Tale". Now we are going to have Marty Ryan (the author of the Forbidden) host the Forbidden. We thought Melissa (Hybrid) and Kendra were going to host Deep Serenity, but now we are going to invite Morticia to host Deep Serenity. It started off that this project was just going to be an expanded business card on the web for fine art .... then it grew. At Deep Serenity we plan to kind of mentor and host; more or less play in a PG-13 sort of way. Morticia is a mother figure after all. Of course she will promote every one and their metaphoric "lemonade stand". We plan to have a gallery of friends and a journal. We will also do auctions of all sorts of stuff (you know how moms love fund raising) and of course give always to the worthy (charity is a blessing to all). Also we will have buttons and links to local stuff .... as well as things that are just too cool.

So how is this stacking up? In a nut shell here are brief accounts of the three hosting personalities:

First of all we have Ms. Ryan who hosts the Forbidden Fairytale. A way too serious EMO, scholar, teacher, and spooky nerd-type who is just drowned by deepness. A dedicated teacher who has made room for little else in her life. She appears strangely satisfied with solitude.

Then we have Phoenix on the Fine Art site - an admitted Pop-Tart. A high strung, hyperactive type; at times way too oversensitive, when not being catty or tactless. In other words, a screamer. What now?

Lastly there is mommy Morticia; mother of all lost children of the night at Deep Serenity. Like all moms she is blind to her children's ... let's call them "unique qualities".  She encourages them all to grow like weeds in the flowerbed of life. She is not to be taken as a permissive mom;  discipline is a part of true love according to Morticia.

[06.24.02] - About the Cup Art series

I love the cup series in part because Orasio and I brainstormed the idea together. We were saying how we were tired of all the fine artists who were doing wine glasses and coffee mugs. So we thought it would be funny to paint 32oz paper cups from fast food and convenience stores.

We laughed about the idea and the next day I had one done when he came over. Then we decided it would be fun to hop in the car and go around to all the local places and get them to contribute a paper cup in the name of art. We had a great time. A week or two later we were bored and did make a second collection, being sure we did not go back to the same places. To give the series more importance we decided to tell people that because paper cups were being replaced with plastic, we were capturing an era soon to be defunct.

Some tourist from Germany bought two at a street fair in Columbia, Ca. and many have ended up as birthday gifts to teens from parents. I will see if I can locate the Mountain Dew painting; I painted it upside down so it would look like a mountain. If you do not see your favorite 32 oz paper cup featured, please let me know. I would love to paint it and post it along with your request.

[06. 23.02] - The Road Kill Series

I don't know .... perhaps Bacon or Soutien or some artist inspired me to begin the Road Kill series. To date, there are only a few which include bugs, birds, and mammals. Being without much technology or funds we would keep stuff in the car to gather the subject up, then I would paint it directly. The guys elected a spokesperson to try to talk us out of this practice. At last we did give in and the Road Kill series died. However there is a chance of reanimation through technology and a little help from some friends.

Example of a painting from The Road Kill series:

[06. 22.02] - The Kali Series

Besides the oils of Kali there are also graphite bar drawings, as well as colored pencil drawings . She was a very dedicated model, and part of that may have had to do with having a crush on a certain relative of mine who also hung out at the house. Her effort culminated in a show in Modesto where there was featured the Kali Corner.
