Darkness hushed the house as it sat in
silence, hour after hour in a race to midnight. Listener woke;
eyes glowed outside the window.

stated.
Quickly the children lifted the window
and escaped the house. It was a routine that had been perfected

In the darkness they hid in the shadows,
ran from the light, and moved with measured swiftness into the
