The coyote, also called Yellow Dog,
appeared in dreams, leaving the dreams fatigued and not rested
upon waking.
Yellow Dog moved lost teenagers across
the desert to the coast. He gave them no food, water, or rest.
He pushed them in the blistering heat, and he pushed them hard
into the desert night.
On the coast they were allowed to sleep
while the yellow dog kept watchful vigilance.
