In his wandering Jack knew exactly where
the spirit wolves dwelled. He told the wolves: "If you hear
the crying of a small child, go to it." His voice was full
of true sincerity.
From camp to camp he wandered until his
own helplessness wore on him. He felt powerless among these
great wolves.
At last one wolf picked up it's ears and
turned to the sound. Jack was delighted but unsure. "You
can hear the cry?"
